Terms of service

These are the terms you agree to by using Decaframe. They're short and written to be read. They include a limitation of our liability.

Decaframe is an independent project run by an individual, not a registered company. "We" and "Decaframe" mean its owner. "The Services" means decaframe.com, app.decaframe.com, the decaframe package and command, and anything else we make. "You" means the person or organisation using them.

We may change these terms. For a significant change we'll update the date above and let account holders know. Using the Services means you agree to the current version.

Your account

  1. Most of Decaframe works without an account. If you make one, keeping it secure is up to you, which in practice means keeping the Google account you sign in with secure.
  2. You are responsible for everything done under your account.
  3. You must be a person. Accounts registered by automated means are not permitted.
  4. You must be old enough to enter a contract where you live, and at least 13.

What you may not do

  1. Break the law with the Services, or help anyone else to.
  2. Use them to send unsolicited bulk mail, to host malware or phishing material, or to harass, threaten or impersonate anyone.
  3. Probe, scan or overload our systems, or try to reach an account that is not yours.
  4. Resell the Services, or use them to build a competing product.
  5. Abuse anyone who works on Decaframe. That ends an account immediately.

The software licence

The decaframe package is licensed, not sold. You can install and use it, including for commercial work, to create, edit and export documents. You can't copy, modify, reverse engineer, redistribute, sublicense, rent or lend it, or use it to build a competing product. It ships without source code and grants no licence to any. The licence file in the package is the full text and wins if the two disagree.

What you make is yours

Every deck you make or export with Decaframe is yours. We claim no ownership and no licence, and we don't store your decks. Themes and templates you create are yours too. Keeping them for you doesn't make them ours: the only licence we take is the one in the next section, and only when you publish.

Publishing to the community

Publishing a theme or a template puts it in the community library, where anyone using Decaframe can use it in their own decks. It's shown under your display name.

  1. You must have the rights to what you publish. Don't publish someone else's design, or anything you are not free to share.
  2. By publishing, you grant every Decaframe user a worldwide, royalty-free licence to use that theme or template in their own decks, including commercially, and you grant us the licence we need to store it, show it in the library and deliver it to them. You keep ownership of it.
  3. That licence covers what you published, not your name: it doesn't let anyone claim your design as their own or say you endorse them.
  4. Your display name must not impersonate another person or organisation, and must not be chosen to mislead people about who made something.
  5. Unpublishing takes it out of the library and deletes it. Decks other people have already exported are unaffected, because an export carries its design inside it.
  6. We may remove anything from the library, and end accounts that abuse it, at our discretion.

What is ours

We own the Services and everything in them: the components, the themes, the page designs, and the design of these sites. Using Decaframe doesn't give you ownership of any of it. Ask before using our name or logo to promote something.

Money

  1. Decaframe is free today. We don't ask for a card, we don't take payment, and we don't sell your data.
  2. Paid plans for cloud decks, sharing, private themes and templates, and teams are on the way. We'll publish prices before any of it can be bought.
  3. What is free today stays free. The pricing page lists it.
  4. Telling us what you'd use, under Settings or on the contact form, helps us decide what to build. It costs nothing and commits you to nothing.

Ending it

  1. You can stop using the Services whenever you like. To delete your account, write to us through the contact form, from the address you signed up with. We'll delete it and everything we hold about you within thirty days.
  2. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or refuse service to anyone, at any time. We'd rather warn you first, and usually will.
  3. Your decks are files on your computer, so closing an account takes nothing from you but the account itself and the themes and templates you saved with it.

Changes to the Services

Decaframe is early software and changes often. We may add, change or remove any part of it, temporarily or permanently, with or without notice. We won't do that carelessly to something you rely on, but we can't promise any feature will exist forever.

Uptime, security and privacy

  1. You use the Services at your own risk. They're provided "as is" and "as available", with no service-level agreement.
  2. We rely on other companies to run the Services: today, Cloudflare for hosting and Google for sign-in.
  3. How we handle personal data is in the privacy policy, which is part of these terms. Short version: we hold your email address, your display name, your settings and any theme or template you saved, never your decks.
  4. If you find a security problem, tell us through the contact form before telling anyone else, and we'll work with you on it.

Features and bugs

We don't guarantee Decaframe will meet your particular needs. It has bugs, like all software. We fix the ones we can, security and data loss first, and we don't promise it'll be error-free.

Liability

You expressly understand and agree that Decaframe shall not be liable, in law or in equity, to you or to any third party for any direct, indirect, incidental, lost profits, special, consequential, punitive or exemplary damages, including but not limited to damages for loss of profits, goodwill, use, data or other intangible losses (even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages), resulting from: (i) the use or the inability to use the Services; (ii) the cost of procuring substitute goods and services; (iii) unauthorised access to or alteration of your transmissions or data; (iv) statements or conduct of any third party on the Services; or (v) any other matter relating to these terms or the Services, whether as a breach of contract, tort (including negligence, whether active or passive), or any other theory of liability. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

In plain terms: using Decaframe is a bet on us. We try hard to be a safe one. If it doesn't work out, that's on you, not us.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of Mumbai have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute. Nothing here removes consumer protections you have where you live.
